Subject: H.B. 6343: An act concerning the restoration of the Housatonic Railroad line
Dear Representative Guerrera and distinguished members of the Transportation Committee,
Thank you for this opportunity to testify in support of H.B. 6343: An act concerning the restoration of the Housatonic Railroad line. I am writing as a resident of Connecticut in support of updating and restoring passenger rail service through Northwest Connecticut, as described in Rep. Roberta Willis’s proposed legislation HB 6343. Upgrading the railway will ensure the stability of the local businesses that ship freight via the line, and make it safer and quieter for the local communities. Freight service is the primary reason some major businesses are located in the region, employing hundreds of local residents. Future passenger service on the upgraded line will be crucial to the future of our small towns, so this project has multiple, long-term benefits. Here are some of the benefits offered to the citizens of Connecticut:
- Support existing businesses and increase tourism.
- Attract young families and entrepreneurs.
- Improve rail safety and decrease noise and vibration.
- Stimulate new local transport options and enterprises.
Yours sincerely,
