We’ll be in West Cornwall, CT on Thursday, 14 August 2014, 6-8pm at the Wandering Moose Cafe http://thewanderingmoosecafe.com. Nat Karns, head of the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission will be there to fill you in on the latest from MA, Karen Christensen will explain how she started the Train Campaign and how we’re working in both Massachusetts and Connecticut. We are asking Connecticut to commit to a joint planning study that would create a shared vision and plan for bringing back the trains – not as a nostalgic gesture but as a commitment to the citizens of the 21st century.
In advance of the meeting, you can help by signing our updated petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/bring-back-the-trains-restore-passenger-service-between-grand-central-and-the-berkshires. The petition calls on legislators to support a joint study immediately. Every signature triggers an email to 20 Connecticut lawmakers as well as the governor and the commissioner of transportation. You can also help by forwarding the petition to friends, family, and colleagues. I am a resident of Holyoke, Ma who is looking forward to rebuilding train service along both the Housatonic and the Connecticut Rivers. It is amazing to think that there was better rail service in this area a century ago than there is now. If we want cleaner air and to reduce energy consumption, we need frequent reliable rail service.
