The Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s Department of Transportation has signed the final documents for its purchase of rail track stretching from Pittsfield to the CT border in Canaan. The Commonwealth made the purchase from Housatonic Railroad Company Inc. and Maybrook Railroad Co. “for the purposes of accommodating a public demand for passenger rail service, and other public purposes including the continued provision of rail freight service by HRRC and rail passenger service.”
Kudos to the Governor Deval Patrick and Secretary Richard Davey for making this historic, essential agreement. And thanks to Eileen Mooney for telling us that “The deed, dated, Jan. 5, starts on page 302 of book 02286, recorded Jan. 7 in the Southern District Registry of Deeds.”
Good news! Thanks to all who have been working, and will continue to work, for this much-needed resource!
I am very eager for the possible railway line through Connecticut. I live in New town ct but will it come through our station can it Plz this station hasn’t had passengers from the housatonic rr since 1971
Looking forward to a New York to Great Barrington line for passengers, and a Boston train that runs west to the Berkshires as well.
Cheers!
